The good thing was that the headliner was The Ventures and they tore the roof off of the place. I had no idea who they were or why my friend wanted to see them, but once they belted out the theme to Hawaii 5-O I understood it all. I have been a lifelong fan of the band since that night. And I’ve been a fan of surf music since then, all the same.

A queer occurrence at my wedding
One of my favorite YouTubers posts video essays in which he analyzes movies. He generally avoids talking politics in his videos but has occasionally dropped a few statements on the matter. He speaks much more to politics and society on his Twitter account. He’s big on equality and is an ally of the LBGTQ+ movement….
Turning Point
I had a good run of attending San Diego Comic-Con. My first three were with my wife and, after she lost interest, my last two were with friends. I made the habit of calling her every night before bed so that we could connect and stave off missing each other. During the 2017 convention I…
I am not a hipster
When I was a kid we had no less than three turntables in my home until Sony invented the Walkman. At that point my sister and I dumped our vinyl for something more portable and never looked back. I was slow to move into the MP3 era because I was a faux snob about the…
2018 vs January 2019
2018: Totaled two of our cars, cat got diabetes, had mother-in-law decide to permanently dwell with us, had all other close family move to distant cities.
Installed roll-out baskets
Thanks to Marie Kondo’s Netflix show my honey-do list began with installing roll-out baskets in our kitchen.
Today I’m visiting a flea market that specializes in vinyl records.
Today I’m visiting a flea market that specializes in vinyl records. I’ll wear my fedora, thick rim glasses, and my everyday neck beard. Good thing fat guys have special immunity from being hipsters or I’d be labeled.
Seeing Puddles Pity Party
Santa Claus delivered me front row tickets to see Puddles Pity Party and the show was last night in Hollywood. It’s a solo show that is half quirky comedy bits all performed mute and half amazing singing by one of the best throats out there. The venue was intimate, encouraging a lot of participation from the audience and, indeed, Puddles pulled people from the audience repeatedly for his comedy bits. If you have the means then I recommend seeing him live. Even if you don’t, I recommend finding his YouTube channel and enjoying his brand of entertainment there.
Lots of VR for Roy
I spent about five hours playing VR today. My short little vacation is off to a great start.
Santa gave me a turntable
Santa gave me a turntable. +1500 hipster XP and +1 level for me. And yes, that is Gene Autry spinning on it.
